Hosts Debbie and Dave

Debbie and Dachshunds, Daisy and SydDave was born in Dunedin and Debbie in Timaru. We were both raised in Timaru.

While on holiday in the Mackenzie, we fell in love with the place so we purchased the piece of land in Twizel in the early 1990s.

We then lived and worked in Christchurch for 26 years, including the earthquake years.

Time for a change

The new Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail ( Mt Cook to Oamaru) had just opened with Twizel as an overnight stop; a great opportunity for us to enter into the accommodation business. We have biked several of the cycle sections with our friends and enjoyed the trails and the scenery. So, Dave, a builder, built the cottages in 2013-2014 on the land in Twizel that we purchased. They became Rosedale Cottages. We opened our doors in October 2014 and have been welcoming guests and visitors ever since.

How the name ‘Rosedale’ evolved

During a discussion session to decide on a name for our accommodation or holiday cottage business, Dave’s sister suggested the inclusion of mum’s name. So we came up with our surviving living parents’ names; Dave’s mum, Rose (Rosetta) and Debbie’s Dad, Dale

We named each cottage separately: Rose Cottage and Dale Cottage . Hence ‘Rosedale Cottages’.

We enjoy meeting people from all walks of life, nationally and internationally.

Living next door, on site, we are always on hand to help if needed.

We are happy to provide tourism suggestions for sightseeing locally and nationally.

With our visitors we go the extra mile plus some.

Rosedale Mascots

Our two lovely, short haired, miniature Dachshunds, Daisy and Syd, were homed in 2014. The fur babies soon learned to greet clients at the cottage gate, knowing there would usually be lots of love and cuddles. So they unintentionally became the Mascots of Rosedale.

Unfortunately, we recently lost Syd. It was a very sad day for us all, including Daisy.

Came across these cottages while looking for accommodation to stay while attending a wedding. I can say having stayed the initial night in Christchurch hotel was unsure of the standard of any accommodation in the South Canterbury area namely Twizel. I was astounded at the quality & cleanliness of these cottages, namely Air Con, heating modern unit, modern little Kitchen, Quality flat screen t.v, Excellent powerful shower, clean quality comfortable bedrooms.
This along with an excellent friendly hosts Debbie & Dave, superb countryside views of Mount Cook range with all the unrivalled beauty of th McKenzie region WoW

A Chance Find, but what a Gem

After spending a couple of nights in Akoroa, we managed to book into one of Debbie and Dave’s wonderful cottages at short notice.

Loved the cottages, and would echo all of the positive comments about them already mentioned by previous guests. Debbie and Dave were wonderful hosts and all of the facilities available ( especially the laundry with two kids) were really appreciated.

Coming from the UK, it might be some time before we return to Twizel, but will certainly look to stay here again if we come back, and will recommend to relatives who live in NZ.!
